One-day seminar titled “Connecting Libraries” 2025

University Library of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, and the Rani Channamma University’s College Librarians Association, in collaboration with the KLS IMER, Belagavi, organized a one-day seminar titled “Connecting Libraries” on 24th April 2025 at the KLS IMER campus, Belagavi.
The seminar brought together library professionals, academicians, and scholars from various districts across Karnataka to discuss the evolving role of libraries in the digital era and explore innovative ways to build a collaborative library ecosystem.
Prof. C.M. Thyagaraja, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of Rani Channamma University, was the Chief Guest for the event. In his address, he stressed the importance of utilizing electronic resources and updating digital platforms. to enhance library services and proposed the Looking towards the future, Prof. Thyagaraja proposed the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)- based laboratory at Rani Channamma University. This advanced facility, he explained, would serve as a centralized hub for technological innovation and collaboration among librarians from various colleges and institutions affiliated with the university. The function was presided over by Shri R.S. Mutalik, who in his presidential address emphasized the critical role of libraries in modern society, especially in disseminating knowledge, fostering lifelong learning, and adapting to technological advancements.
Prof. Vinayak Bankapur, Librarian of Rani Channamma University, extended a warm welcome to all the distinguished guests and librarians attending the seminar from different parts of Karnataka.
Adding further value to the seminar were the insights shared by Dr. S.L. Sangam, Retired Professor from Karnatak University, Dharwad, who elaborated on the concept of resource sharing and the importance of library networking systems. His talk highlighted practical strategies for libraries to collaborate, share resources, and reduce duplication of efforts.
A keynote lecture was also delivered by Prof. S.L. Deshpande, from the Department of Computer Science, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi. He spoke on the technical and digital aspects of connecting libraries, focusing on the integration of IT solutions to strengthen library networks.
The seminar witnessed the presence and support of notable dignitaries, including Dr. Arif Shaikh, Director of KLS IMER, and Dr. Suman Muddapur, Deputy Librarian of Rani Channamma University, Belagavi, who played a vital role in the organization of the event.
